The 6-pole, 2-phase axial flux generator of the VIRYA-1 windmill is described in report KD 574. This generator has a steel stator sheet which has as disadvantage that eddy currents are created because of the fluctuating magnetic field. Ideas about an alternative 8-pole, 3-phase axial flux generator are described in the new free public report KD 608. This generator has a synthetic stator sheet and therefore no eddy currents are created. The generator will therefore have a higher maximum efficiency and, as it has no sticking torque, starting of the rotor will be very easily. The VIRYA-1 with this 8-pole generator is expected to function well in areas with low wind speeds. A prototype of the generator has not yet been built.
